COMMUNICATIONS

Some very valuable papers are presented before the I.H.A. We have always preferred to listen to a paper, except perhaps those written under high pressure, or as a last moment expedient, rather than to an extemporaneous talk. The reason for this is that the conscientious writer of a paper puts in some time in real thought on his subject sees how it looks in print, corrects his mistakes, and sees where he can improve his expression, or convey a better idea.

CARRIWITCHETS

Examination revealed no organic lesion, but there was a definite history of the trouble beginning after a psychoanalysis. Heloderma was prescribed in the 30 dilution t.d.s. and in two days the symptoms which had troubled the patient for three years had disappeared. The anxiety state persisted but in a greatly diminished form.

DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC TOTALITY

That disease is primarily a morbid disturbance or disorderly action of the vital force, represented by the totality of the symptoms of the patient. It is purely a dynamical disturbance of the vital powers and functions which may or may not ultimate in gross tissue changes. The tissue changes are no essential part of the disease, but only the products of the disease which as such are not the objects of treatment by medication.

A SERIES OF CASES HOMOEOPATHICALLY TREATED

On the occasion of my recent visit to Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1931, my attention was directed to several specimens of a small worm in alcohol, about one inch in length and the thickness of a hat pin. The name of the worm was Arlome. The information given herewith was supplied by Drs. J.F. Gonzalez and Ignacio Montoya of Guadalajara.

HOW IT STRIKES A CONTEMPORARY

The following vivid pen-picture of Hahnemann in his brilliant sunset-days in Paris, was painted by a contemporary and friend, Ernest Legouve of the Academie Francaise, in his Sixty Years of Recollections and translated by A. It comes to us, as circulated in a small pamphlet many years ago.

SYMPTOM VALUES

Symptoms common to all cases of a certain disease are little indicative of a similar remedy. There is nothing here to be found individual and compelling our choice. Symptoms common to many drugs likewise do not stand out in the selection of a similar drug picture.

TRADITIONAL MEDICINE AND HOMOEOPATHY

Traditional medicine dates from time immemorial. In its long history it has outgrown innumerable practices and made countless new discoveries. The history of medicine, like the history of nations, records many glorious achievements and likewise many dismal and tragic failures.

A SERIES OF VENEREAL CASES TREATED ONLY BY THE INDICATED HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDY

That Hahnemann appreciated the value of these statements we have ample proof in the masterly survey made by him of the chronic diseases during the remainder of his long and memorable life. The future of medicine so far as venereal diseases are concerned offers much to be hoped for, if the wisdom of the founder of homoeopathy be followed.

A CASE OF ACUTE GONORRHOEA TREATED BY THE INDICATED REMEDY WITH THE LABORATORY REPORTS

In about seven days she had a profuse flow from the vagina, a yellowish-green, thick solution. She went to an allopathic doctor. He took smears and examined it and said he could not find anything, but he said, “There is no use in talking, it is gonorrhoea,” It was a tremendous shock to her. This doctor advised douches with protargol and so forth, and the secretions didnt cease. She went to another doctor, and he did the same thing.

SAMUEL HAHNEMANN

The father found it impossible to consider further drain on his slender resources, but the school- master offered free tuition in such a tactful way that he overcame the fathers scruples and Samuel was allowed to continued his studied. The schoolmaster devoted much effort to this exceptional pupil, and at the age of twelve Samuel had such a comprehensive knowledge of Greek and Latin that he assisted his instructor by tutoring backward pupils.

STELLARIA MEDIA A PROVING

In the proving we are sorry to be compelled to state that Mrs. P. had no result whatever, which was quite a disappointment to us as we wished to see how it would affect the female, especially the menses. Dr. John H. Clarke thought perhaps that “shifting pains would be proven to be characteristic”. Neither Dr. D.T.P. nor I was able to confirm this.

A TOAST TO HAHNEMANN

While we are gathered here to revere the memory of that greatest physician the world has ever known, whose soul might rise above that of the average man, let us all rise- and drink-to the memory of SAMUEL
