SOME REMEDIES FOR CHRONIC DISEASES

A homoeopathic remedy will only cure that part of the case to which it is homoeopathic, the other part or parts of of the case must be treated by their similars. The indicated remedy may cover the totality of the present symptoms, but a suppressed disease like gonorrhea, measles, etc., may prevent the indicated remedy from going deep enough until the nosode or the particular disease had a chance to unlock its suppression.

Hahnemann states in the Organon, paragraph 203: “Suppression or local disease is the most general cause of chronic disease.” Chronic disease is not possible unless acute disease has been suppressed at some time in the past.

Under regular medical treatment every acute disease that occurs from birth to maturity is suppressed. During that time Nature may have made half a dozen or more unsuccessful attempts to heal the body with the result that the adult then presents a complicated picture of chronic disease caused by the successive suppression of each acute healing effort of Nature.

On the other hand, if children were treated at the outset by the homoeopathic method, and every acute disease had a remedy prescribed according to the Law of Similars, we would have little if any chronic disease. The homoeopathic remedy would produce the same symptoms that Nature is producing in her attempt to heal; this would obviously assist Nature more quickly and more forcefully to eliminate the diseased conditions.

However, since the majority of our patients have already been treated by regulars for years, we have to unravel this complicated picture. In deep – seated chronic disease it is absolutely essential to produce one or more healing crises or aggravation before the patient can be cured. This healing crisis represents the effort of Nature to unlock the suppression and eliminate the disease condition.

Kent gave us a method to determine if our remedy was working in the right direction. He stated, “the last symptoms to appear were the first to disappear, and the tendency of cure was from within out, and from above downwards. If the symptoms do not disappear in this order, then the remedy is suppressive and its action must be antidoted at once.”

It sometimes happens that carefully selected remedies, while producing some improvement, fail to carry the case to a complete cure. In may of these cases, where the original acute disease was suppressed, the indicated remedy or the patients constitutional remedy alone may not be sufficient to remove the suppressed condition. I have found that many of these cases can be quickly cleared up by using a nosode, particularly if the history of the case brings out evidence of measles, scarlet fever, gonorrhea, etc. Working according to the Law of Similars, the nosode is powerful enough to clear up the case.

The nosodes that I have used most frequently are: Pyrogen Medorrhinum, Morbillinum, Bacillinum, Syphilinum. Tuberculinum.

Pyrogen is a wonderful remedy in chronic disease. However, many prescribers regard it as an acute remedy and use it only for acute septic states; but I have found it very valuable in chronic conditions, especially those chronic cases that date back to septic states. Pyrogen present three principal characteristics:

1. extreme soreness.

2. extreme restlessness.

3. Very high pulse rate out of proportion to the moderate temperature.

The soreness is extreme, there is intolerable aching, the bed feels hard. Some may describe soreness as compared to lying on a pile of rocks. The soreness is not unlike that of Arnica. The extreme restlessness is better when first beginning to move, but this relief lasts only a few minutes; he is compelled to keep on moving in order to try to obtain relief. These patients feel better sitting in a rocking chair and rocking hard in order to give a sensation of continuous motion.

There is throbbing of the vessels in the neck and a sensation of violent heart action. Pyrogen has the symptoms, “Vomits water as soon as it becomes warm in the symptoms, “Vomits water as soon as becomes warm in the stomach,” but unlike Phos., the sick stomach is better by drinking very hot water. Pyrogen has the power of clearing up chronic disease that dates back to the suppression of some acute septic condition.

I treated a patient who has thick, swollen glands in the groin. She gave a history of having been stung be an insect on the leg some two years previously. The leg became very inflamed and painful for a long time before it subsided, after which the glands in the groin became swollen. I gave her one dose of Pyrogen 200. She awoke the next morning with a large swelling on the leg at the spot where she had been stung. It was extremely sore and had a sensation of burning and throbbing. She was very nervous and restless, but after a few hours the swelling gradually subsided as well as the swollen glands in the groin which eventually completely disappeared.

Medorrhinum has proved to be a valuable remedy for chronic disease. This remedy will unlock the suppression resulting from gonorrhea, but its use is not only to be confined to the after – effects of gonorrhea. It will produce remarkable results, if the symptoms of the patient call for it, irrespective of any sycotic history.

A friend of mine who is a regular physician was discussing with me the case of a man about 30 years old who had a severe pain in the lumbar spine. This pain had persisted for several years. In spite of the efforts of some five or six regular physicians, nothing would relieve it for more than a few hours at a time. He had been attended by my friend for several months and was on the point of leaving him because he was not getting any better. My friend asked what could Homoeopathy do for such a case.

Well, I had not seen the patient, I could not get any modalities, but I did learn that he had a history of having had gonorrhea about five years ago. I gave him Medorrhinum 1.M. I did not see my friend again for several weeks, but when I did, he told me how amazed he was that his patient had been completely cured of his chronic backache. He stated that after taking the remedy he was awakened during the night with excruciating pain in his back, his urine burned and he passed water every few minutes. This went on for several hours until he fell asleep. He awoke next morning free from pain for the first time for several years.

Morbillinum is one of the most useful of nosodes. We all know the frequency with which chronic ear – troubles will follow an attack of measles. Many patients will report that they have never been completely well since an attack of measles. These cases will be greatly helped by a dose of Morbillinum. Whenever there is a case having a history of measles, no matter what the indicated remedy may be, it will be helped by a dose of Morbillinum.

Diphtherinum is another remedy that will greatly help cases that have troubles that come on following an attack of diphtheria. I had one patient who suffered from repeated attacks of septic throats. These attacks first started shortly after she had had diphtheria. I gave her one dose of Diphtherinum 200. Two days later she developed a chain of swollen glands round her neck. After a few days they subsided and the condition of her throat rapidly improved.

Bacillinum or Tuberculinum may help in case that have a tendency to relapse when the indicated remedy has acted for a time but does not hold, especially if there is a family history of tuberculosis. If we examine public health statistics, it is surprising how many people have either a hereditary tuberculous taint or have had tuberculosis at some time in their lives.
