REGULATION OF THE FIRST WORLD CONGRESS OF HOMOEOPATHS. The purpose of the First World Congress of Homoeopaths is to get together all homoeopathic physicians, dentists, veterinaries and pharmacists of the entire world with a view to cooperating more closely for the scientific development and the spreading of Hahnemanns doctrine.

 

1.- The purpose of the First World Congress of Homoeopaths is to get together all homoeopathic physicians, dentists, veterinaries and pharmacists of the entire world with a view to cooperating more closely for the scientific development and the spreading of Hahnemanns doctrine.

11- The Congress shall be held in RIO DE JANEIRO and in SAO PAULO in Brazil from October 2-13, 1954.

111- Besides scientific matter, the Congress will study the possibility of a) accomplishing that the Public Powers of each country represented at the Congress officially recognize the teaching of homoeopathy, b) of organizing a world-wide association of homoeopathic physicians by uniting the associations which already exist and by furthering the creating of others which may not yet have been formed.

IV- The proposals voted on at the end of the Congress shall be officially transmitted by the Brazilian government to the government of all countries represented at the Congress.

GENERAL ORGANIZATION:

V- The Congress shall be composed of four categories of members:

a-HONORARY DELEGATES-chosen among official representatives and prominent persons of Brazil and of the participating countries;

b-REGULAR DELEGATES-Physicians, dentists, veterinaries and pharmacists who actually pursue their profession;

c-COOPERATING DELEGATES-will be the various homoeopathic associations, laboratories and pharmacies;

d.-SUPPORTING DELEGATES-Followers and friends of homoeopathy.

VI-The Board of Directors of the Congress shall be formed by the presidents of the various associations or societies of homoeopathy, while the president can be represented by a delegate.

VII-Before the official opening session the presidents or their representatives shall get together for the purpose of:

a-electing the distinguished president of the Congress;

b-nominating a president for each working session provided;

c-electing the members of the various commission, while each of them shall be formed by five members, on principle;

d-nominating the secretaries, treasures, assistants, etc.;

e-ratifying and rectifying all deliberations and provisions first agreed upon.

VIII-At the opening of the Congress each delegate will receive a badge; at the closing session, a commemorative, official document and, later, a report on the work.

IX-The participation dues of the regular and supporting delegates are 300,00 Cruzeiros. The dues of the cooperating delegates are 1,000. Cruzeiros. For foreign delegates these amounts are to be in agreement with the laws of each country at the times of the meeting, in conformity with the possibilities of exchange and of transfer of foreign exchange.

ORGANIZATION OF THE WORK:

X-The delegates who want to submit papers shall follow the following rules:

a-the subject is optional, while it should deal with homoeopathy and should be unpublished;

b-the text typed in double space and in three copies shall be forwarded prior to July 1, 1954, to Dr. Amaro Azevedo, President of the Fifth Brazilian Congress of Homoeopathy, Caixa Postal (P.O. Box) 1311, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;

c-this text shall be accompanied by a summary of fifteen lines at most and if possible-shall be accompanied by a translation into two languages;

d-the author shall have available ten minutes for setting forth his paper on the day and at the hour stated in the program;

e-the appreciations and remarks concerning each paper shall not require more time than five minutes.

ORGANIZING TRANSPORTATION:

XI-Dr. Amaro Azevedo, President of the Fifth Brazilian Congress of Homoeopathy, in the capacity of organizer of the First World Congress of Homoeopaths, shall get in touch with steamship and air traffic companies for the purpose of obtaining a special reduction for the delegates and their families (considering a discount of from thirty to fifty per cent).

With a view to making it easier for him to make these arrangements and to obtaining the largest possible discount, the interested parties are requested to give him the following information as soon as possible:

a-number of the accompanying persons;

b-full names and ages;

c-as the case may be, the degree of relationship;

d-preferred means of transportation.

Travelling time from Europe to Brazil: 24 hours by air; 12-14. days by sea.

Travelling time from the U.S.A. to Brazil; 30 hours by air; 12 days by sea.

STAY IN BRAZIL:

XII-Upon their arrival the delegates will be welcome on the docks of the port or at the airport. All necessary instructions will be given to them, and a guide will accompany them to the hotel, while the detailed program is delivered to them.

The delegates and persons who accompany them will have the benefit of a special discount with regard to their expenses for the stay and transportation in Brazil (thirty per cent education at least). The exact amount of this reduction will be made known to the interested parties as soon as the credits granted by the Brazilian government are known.

XII-The presidents of the various societies and associations, as well as the mangers of journals and newspapers dealing with homoeopathy, well be considered official of Brazil and shall enjoy a gratuitous stay during the Congress.

Allan D. Sutherland
Dr. Sutherland graduated from the Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia and was editor of the Homeopathic Recorder and the Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy.
Allan D. Sutherland was born in Northfield, Vermont in 1897, delivered by the local homeopathic physician. The son of a Canadian Episcopalian minister, his father had arrived there to lead the local parish five years earlier and met his mother, who was the daughter of the president of the University of Norwich. Four years after Allan’s birth, ministerial work lead the family first to North Carolina and then to Connecticut a few years afterward.
Starting in 1920, Sutherland began his premedical studies and a year later, he began his medical education at Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia.
Sutherland graduated in 1925 and went on to intern at both Children’s Homeopathic Hospital and St. Luke’s Homeopathic Hospital. He then was appointed the chief resident at Children’s. With the conclusion of his residency and 2 years of clinical experience under his belt, Sutherland opened his own practice in Philadelphia while retaining a position at Children’s in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.
In 1928, Sutherland decided to set up practice in Brattleboro.
