Questions: WHY IS IT THAT THE FIRST PRESCRIPTION IN A CHRONIC CASE OFTEN ACTS BETWEEN THAN ANY SUBSEQUENT PRESCRIPTION?.

Answer: There are several points to consider: (a) Sometimes the first prescription is the true similimum, in which cases it will naturally act better than any partial similar can ever act. (b) The case may be spoiled by too frequent repetition and this probably is the trouble in many instances. (c) Failure in removing the obstacles to recovery. When important etiologic factors are allowed to continue operating after homoeopathic treatment is undertaken the index of remedial action of even the well selected remedy progressively fails. (d) Needless prescribing of intercurrent remedies for colds, etc., when the chronic remedy would have taken care of the situation with less confusion in the long run.
