5. Headache: dull: pressure or stitching, tearing pains worse from motion and opening the eyes.

6. Eyes dull, watery.

7. Hardness of hearing.

9. Lips dry, brown, cracked.

10. Tongue coated thick, white, or yellowish, later brown and dry.

11. Dry feeling in mouth without any thirst or with great thirst with drinking large quantities at a time.

14. Great soreness in the pit of the stomach to touch or motion.

15. Hard cough with stitching pain in the chest and region of the liver.

“Typhoid great soreness over body, tired feeling; every exertion fatigues; dread of all motion; splitting, agonizing frontal headache, worse motion; face gets red towards evening, fullness of the head in morning followed by nose-bleed; sleep is troubled and patient dreams of business; delirium, imagines he is away from home, wants to go home; drinks large quantities at long intervals; soft mushy stools; Heaviness of limbs, headache, white coated tongue, loss of appetite; usually constipation (usually diarrhoea Rhus. Bapt.)”.

“Great lassitude or weakness; pains in head, back and limbs, worse motion; white coated tongue; dry parched lips and mouth without or with thirst for water in large quantities at a time: loss of appetite; empty eructations; constipation; restless sleep; dreams of business; does not want to move; all bad feelings worse by motion; patient gets sick and faint when rising up from lying down.”.

“Great and general weakness on waking from sleep; with sluggishness, lassitude, and drowsiness; he feels better when lying down; loss of strength on the least exertion, especially after rising from sitting and at the beginning of walking, and with want of firmness in all the joint. Weariness and heaviness in all the limbs, especially the legs and on rising from sitting.

Great sleepiness through the whole day; he must sleep all the time (Nux-v); comatose sleep with anxious delirium, or with dry heat; jerkings of the face, and involuntary stools. At night in bed, he lies without consciousness, with groans, cold sweat on the forehead, followed by weakness; thirst with frequent drinking; delirium on walking from sleep. In sleep, whimpering at three Oclock a.m. distortion of the mouth or movements like chewing.

Involuntary stools, anxious dreams, with waking with fright and outcries; frightful, delirious dreams, as if cut and hacked by soldiers, with desire to escape. Wakes weary and unrefreshed; anxious perspiration which prevents sleep, with sighing; short cough, and pressure on chest; great heaviness of head; Bleeding of nose at 3 Oclock a.m. face pale, yellow.”.

Aggravation: Motion, exertion, touch, warmth, warm food, suppressed discharges, stooping, closing eyes. Lying on painless side. Motion of eyes. Morning. Hot weather.

Amelioration: After eructation. While lying down. Lying on the back. Lying on painful side. When quiet, from cold things, cold food. Pressure. Rest. Cold.

NUX VOM.

Leaders.

1. Very red face.

2. Chilliness even during high fever; least uncovering brings on chilliness.

3. Strong inclination to lie down, dreads movement.

4. Frequent and ineffectual desire for stool or passes little at a time, better after stool. Ineffectual desire to urinate. Ineffectual desire to vomit. Wants to vomit but cannot.

5. Morning aggravations.

Feels worse in the morning soon after awaking.

6. Tongue black and cracked with bright red edges.

First half of tongue clean, posterior covered with deep fur. White, yellow, cracked edges.

7. Can not sleep after 3 A.M. until towards morning.

8. Better after a short sleep unless aroused.

9. Body burning hot (Bell.) especially face; yet can not move or uncover without feeling chilly.

10. Cough when lying on back. Cough brings on bursting headache and bruised pain in epigastric region.

11. Nose stuffed up at night and outdoors or alternates between nostrils.

12. Cannot bear noises, odors, light.

13. Very irritable.

14. Avoids open air.

Mind: Over sensitiveness to external impressions; noise, smell, light and music are unbearable and affect him much.

Anxiety and restlessness in the evening.

Time passes too slowly.

Heat with anxiety, with restlessness, aversion to undress or uncover, perspiration on one side only.

When perspiring, wants to throw off the covers.

Sleeplessness after midnight.

Sour taste of expectoration.

Sour taste of mouth.

Vomiting of sour matter.

Epistaxis with dark blood.

No desire to hold communication with any one; gives surely answers; does not wish to be touched. Wants to be alone, is quiet and sullen.

Urine red and fetid.

Gastric and bilious symptoms.

Soreness of liver and spleen which are sensitive to least pressure.

“Typhoid, sedentary men, severe, headache, constipation with frequent ineffectual desire for stool, very high fever, bright red face, constant desire to be covered, chilly if he moves or is uncovered in the least.”.

“In the selection of Nux-vom in typhoid fevers you are guided by the gastric and bilious symptoms, bitter taste in the mouth, especially in the morning, nausea, vomiting of bile, and characteristic constipation of the drug. The weakness which necessarily belongs to the typhoid state is expressed under Nux- vom. by a strong inclination to lie down. The nights are passed in nervous excited sleep; slight noises cause him to start. He moans and whimpers in his slumber and his dreams are full of bustle and hurry. He may even be delirious.”.

Sleep: Dreams of exertion, rowing, swimming, Etc.

Inability to remain lying on side at night.

Weeping while asleep.

Sleep with open mouth and short breathing.

Sleeplessness especially before midnight.

“T. from rheumatic exposure, summer bathing. Continual motion only relieves. Constant restlessness, cannot sit quiet. Craving for milk, cold water. Triangular red tip of tongue. Sweat over whole body except face or vice versa. Sweat does not relieve pains. Head and hand hot, rest of body chilly, or vice versa. Heat on left side and coldness of right side of body. Yawning, stretching and aching in limbs, increase of saliva in mouth, burning in eyes and painful weariness of the limbs, fever caused by living in damp rooms, sleeping in damp beds. Fever in damp wet weather.”.

“T. diarrhoea, tongue dry as a board, and red at tip in the shape of a triangle. Delirium and stupor with low form of muttering. Patient cannot lie still, must toss or change position which relieves temporarily.”.

“Typhoid, patient of mild temperament; mild delirium; disposition to jump out of bed or to try to escape; No violent anger; delirium with physical and mental restlessness; constant desire to move. Sometimes in the beginning of typhoid patient wants to lie perfectly quiet (exceptionally). This is due to great weakness; he feels perfectly prostrated. Indifferent to everything.

Hallucinations, he fears that he will be poisoned. Stupor, answers very slowly as if reluctantly or else in a petulant way; but he is not violent. Severe headache, flushing of the face; Epistaxis relieving the headache and the blood is dark in colour. Restless sleep with dreams of great exertion. Pneumonia, cough, difficult breathing, rust-coloured sputum. Tongue dark brown, dry and cracked. Cracks of tongue bleed. Tongue and mouth covered with brownish tenacious mucus; tongue taking imprint of teeth.

Tongue has a triangular red tip. Diarrhoea, yellowish-brown or greenish stools, cadaverous odor; involuntary stool during sleep; involuntary urine. Tearing pains in limbs with backache. Dreams of the business of the day (Bry.). Surface of body dry and hot; redder than normal. Red spots on skin. Sweat copious, sour, and with miliary rash. Abdomen tympanitic and sensitive in right iliac region.”.

Aggravation: Before a storm. Cold wet rainy weather; at night especially after midnight; from getting wet while perspiring. During rest; from getting wet after being heated; from excessive bodily exercise; from heavy falls; concussion of body. Cold bathing. Morning. Winter. Lying down; on change of weather, wet weather; in cold air; from cold in general; uncovering the head. Autumn, from surgical injuries; during sweating.

Amelioration: From wrapping up head or parts, from moving; from warm or hot things; in dry weather; in clear weather; moving affected parts. Rubbing. Continued motion.
