This interesting report witnesses many lavish contributions of the Government towards hospitals, dispensaries, and some of the private medical institutions; for example, a capital grant of Rs. 49,000/- was made to the Ramkrishna Sishumangal Prathistan, Calcutta. The Report mentions that a General Council and State Faculty of Unani Medicine has since been established and a grant of Rs. 4000/- has been made to it to make a start.

Promise yet unredeemed.

The activities of the Government of Bengal in its Medical Department is incorporated in its Triannual Report for the years 1938, 1939 and 1940, which has very recently been published.

This interesting report witnesses many lavish contributions of the Government towards hospitals, dispensaries, and some of the private medical institutions; for example, a capital grant of Rs. 49,000/- was made to the Ramkrishna Sishumangal Prathistan, Calcutta.

The Report mentions that a General Council and State Faculty of Unani Medicine has since been established and a grant of Rs. 4000/- has been made to it to make a start.

But, although the sum of Rs. 10,000/- has been placed in the hands of the Government, this recently published Report observes: “Statutes relating to a similar Faculty of Homoeopathic Medicine have also been promulgated by Government and the Faculty will soon be constituted.”–(Italics ours). This reminds us of Popes lines, viz. “Man never is, but always to be blest”.

The Statutes were promulgated by Resolution No. 1568 Medl. of the 20th June, 1941, and this is July, 1942; yet the government speaks in the future tense.

Lo, the meek Homoeopath ! whose ceaseless appeal.

Brings on FACULTY, yet carries his zeal.

Otherwise they will cease to be regarded as registered Kavirajes, lose their franchise and will not be able to participate in the next general election to the Ayurvedic Council....
  4. Editorial We congratulate the Ministery on the comprehensive, simple and straightforward style and language of the rules published. We hope that remaining business will be pushed forward with reasonable speed so that within the next six months the General Council may implement the Faculty in all its aspects....
