Saokat Hussain, age 4, son of Khan Saheb A.L. Khan, Advocate, Purulia, was placed under my treatment on the 11th October last. He was suffering from continued fever for about nine months. In the beginning he was treated by several Homoeopaths of the town but the fever was not controlled. Then in the month of September the treatment was changed to allopathy. The temperature was between a little over 100F and 988 with an irregular double rise.
The civil surgeon of the district was consulted, who suspected Kalazar and wanted the blood to be tested for the same. Capt. Ghose, examined the blood and the result was, profusely positive for kalazar. On this finding, a specific treatment for kalazar by injecting a course of Urea-Stibamine was given but the fever was not checked and it continued as before. The C.S. expressed his anxieties for the child and asked Khan Saheb to try homoeopathy again.
After waiting a few days Khan Saheb came to me for the treatment of the child. On examination I noted the following symptoms: The morning temperature was 98-6 when it ordinarily remains the lowest and then rises gradually. Forehead and top of the head hot; lower part of the body cooler but the soles and palms are always hot. Likes open cool air on the body and stomach, likes bath in cold water and to handle to same also to lie down on the cold cemented floor.
During sleep, he does not like covering and wants fanning in the abdomen; he would never like his legs to be covered and would always kick off the covering if the legs were covered. He goes for stool early in the morning just after rising from the bed. Thread worms in the stool. He is a restless boy and would like to roam about. Sweats on the head and neck after sleep; wets the bed at night, generally twice.
During sleep he draws in his left leg. Grinding his teeth in sleep. No such thirst. He likes milk, sweet things, meat and warm drinks. If he gets excited or annoyed and cries, the temperature will rise. Otorrhoea in both the ears with offensive whitish discharges; an ulcer on the head with offensive sticky pus. Swelling of the glands behind the ears.
On the above symptoms Sulphur 2 c., one dose was given in the morning of 12-10-46. There was an aggravation of the temperature over 102 in the night and the discharges from the ears were also very much increased. On the 13th. Oct. the temperature began to fall and at night after a profuse sweat there was a full remission of the fever. The other symptoms also began to lessen.
After about a week the discharges from the left ear which was more than the right, totally stopped but the right ear still continued to discharge pus. It was reported to me on the 27th. that the fever had reappeared on the 25th but there was no double rise and there was no fever in the morning but it was rising to 99 in the night. On further examination the modalities were found to be the same.
The discharge from one of the ears was still continuing. Sulphur 5c., one dose was given in the morning of 27-10-46. There was an aggravation of the fever at night but on the night of the next day there came a complete remission after sweat. The fever has not returned since then and the otorrhoea of the other ear also disappeared after five days. Thus a case of kalazar was cured.
It clearly proves that there is no importance of a name of disease in homoeopathic treatment. Whatever may be the name of the disease it will be cured when a similar remedy is administered in proper dose.
