A LAYMANS CIMICIFUGA

A lay homoeopath–I was quite frightened at the very appearance of the breast. I gave Bry, and Con. without result. A surgeon was called. He prescribed antiflamin, then ichthiol and belladonna paste and finally advised operation. The patient and her people revolted against the suggestion of knife. They reverted to this lay man and solicited him to do something to relieve her intolerable pain. I was at my wits end.

Lady, aged about 24 years, mother of three children, had inflammation of her left breast. The entire breast was red, hot and swollen, extremely sensitive, had to be constantly supported by a sling, and below the nipple an indurated gland about the size of a large walnut.

I thought : it was a case of woman, it was on her left side, it was aggravated from motion and had to be constantly rested on a sling : I further thought that her present trouble may be due to some uterine or ovarian disease which I as a layman cannot detect. I do not know what it was that prompted me to give Cimicifuga, 30, one dose only, and within 24 hours it showed wonderful result. The surgeon was struck with surprise to find the inflammation and agony gone, the redness disappeared, the walnut reduced to one fourth of its size. A week later she received another dose of Cimicifuga which was soon followed by a complete and uneventful recovery.

I subsequently hunted for this mammary symptom of cimicifuga but could not get it in any Materia Medica. It is, perhaps, only a laymans clinical symptom.
